About

Dr. JoAnne Castagna

Thank you for visiting my website and taking the time to learn what I can offer you …
In this time of unreliable news and uncertainty about the health of our environment, it seemed logical to me to create 2 Bourkes PR, a public relations service that specializes in the writing and marketing of thoroughly researched and carefully placed news articles about our environment.
For nearly three decades, I’ve written for science-based organizations to educate the public on subjects including Drinking Water Safety, Environmental Preservation, Solar Power & Energy, Wildlife Protection, and the construction of Sustainable Infrastructure.
The foundation of my articles is thorough research. This often involves visiting project sites to gather information and take photos. I’ve visited construction sites, military bases, environmental restoration locations, toxic cleanup sites and even made several trips to one of the coldest places on Earth – Pituffik Space Base, Greenland, located in the Arctic.
Once I’ve gathered sometimes very technical information from an organization, I’m adept at transforming it into human interest stories that are understandable and interesting for different audiences, resulting in the organization receiving positive media coverage that I’ve been praised for.
To reach different audiences, I market my articles to a wide variety of outlets. I’ve been published in numerous trade and consumer magazines, journals, newspapers and books.
For example, I wrote an article for an agency that has a program that protects the ground water in New York State’s Catskill Mountains, a vital source of drinking water for millions of New York City residents.
“Protecting water quality in the model forest” was published in several magazines and newspapers including Northern Woodlands, Timber Harvesting, U.S. Water News and The Conservationist.
As a result, I was flooded with calls and emails from readers. They included forestry graduate students who wanted more information, a water management specialist who wanted permission to distribute my article at a major water conference, and an organization that wanted to partner with the agency on future water projects.
I can do the same for your organization.

Besides my years of experience, my educational background includes a doctorate degree in Educational Administration, master’s degree in Specialized Journalism, and a bachelor’s degree in Communication Arts.
Now, you may be wondering where 2 Bourkes PR received its name. My interest in the environment, extends to my personal life. I’m an avid bird lover. 2 Bourkes PR is named after my two Rosey Bourkes Parakeets – Pink & Lee. They remind me every day how fragile our environment is and how sustaining it requires great work, care and love.
With 2 Bourkes PR, I like to think that in my own small way, I’m helping our environment. My hope is that my articles will help spread useful information, encourage people to want to learn more, foster collaboration between organizations, and most importantly help to sustain our world for the future.
